Landscape Designer smilligan@carbo-la.com

Sydney earned a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Louisiana State University in May, 2025 and joined CARBO’s team shortly after. During her time at LSU, Sydney gained experience as a landscape design intern in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and as a horticultural intern at the New Orleans Botanic Garden. After graduating, she participated in a work-study through WWOOF on a biodynamic fruit farm in the Netherlands. Collectively, these experiences deepened her appreciation for thoughtful planting design, which she is excited to continue practicing in Baton Rouge.

Her final semester culminated in a capstone project exploring an artful approach to water education and public play in Baton Rouge. Titled “Chasing Water: Inspiring Stewardship in Baton Rouge through Play,” the project proposed a network of interactive play spaces that work with Baton Rouge’s water systems to create places for public play while supporting future pedestrian and bike connections throughout the city. Sydney’s project was named Best Capstone by faculty, and her overall academic work was recognized with the college’s Dean’s Medal.

Sydney is planning to stay active in the American Society of Landscape Architects while working as a designer at CARBO. She previously served as the National Student Representative to the ASLA Board of Trustees and chaired the ASLA Student Advisory Committee, representing landscape architecture students nationwide. Now, she looks forward to being more involved in the Louisiana Chapter as she begins her professional career.
