Spencer Miller, ASLA

Landscape Designer smiller@carbo-la.com

Spencer grew up in South Louisiana, where early experiences exploring bayous, pine forests, and coastal wetlands nurtured a fascination with the region’s natural systems. His time outdoors as a Boy Scout—ultimately earning the rank of Eagle Scout—instilled a lasting respect for ecology, stewardship, and the intricate relationship between people and their environments.

While studying at Louisiana State University, Spencer began working at Clegg’s Nursery, where he gained hands-on practical experience, bridging the gap between theory (classroom) and practice (nursery). The daily rhythm of nursery work deepened his understanding of plant communities and how they can shape resilient, beautiful spaces. This foundation eventually guided him toward pursuing a Master of Landscape Architecture at LSU, where his graduate design research centered on improving the ecological function of residential landscapes across South Louisiana.

During his time at LSU, Spencer served as Co-President of the ASLA Student Chapter, helping to promote collaboration and professional growth among emerging designers. As he begins his professional career, he looks forward to remaining active in the American Society of Landscape Architects and contributing to the Louisiana Chapter’s ongoing dialogue about design and ecology in the face of Louisiana's dynamic environment. Outside the office, he enjoys gardening with native plants, whitewater rafting, landscape photography, and cooking—pursuits that continue to deepen his appreciation for the connection between people, place, and the natural world.
